Zener barriers – cost saving and easy mounting Ex-protection - Pepperl+Fuchs
Zener barriers provide cost saving Ex-protection for various applications in process automation systems. The amount of energy transferred to the hazardous location is limited to a safe level incapable of igniting the explosive atmosphere. Pepperl+Fuchs offers a wide product portfolio of housing and connection styles, which include DIN rail, termination board mounted, and accessories for each application.
Zener barriers have to be connected to an IS ground.
The IS grounding can be realized several ways:
- Isolated from the DIN- Rail
- Via an isolated DIN-Rail
- Via DIN-Rail
Field replaceable fuses provide a convenient means of disconnecting or open-circuiting the instrument loop without interfering with the wiring, making commissioning and maintenance operations much easier.
Z-System
The zener barriers of the Z-System are DIN-Rail mountable. Utilizing the DIN rail, the IS grounding is made possible without additional wiring efforts.
SB-System
This system consists of single SB-terminal bases or multi-sockets (SB-termination board) where the zener barriers (SB-barriers) are plugged in. The complete system is mounted on a 35mm DIN Rail. |

Group Overview: Signal Conditioners |
|
|
|
What are signal conditioners?
With the variety of process control systems available, it is often necessary to convert an input signal into a format that the system will accept. Signal conditioners take signals from an assortment of field instruments such as thermocouples and RTDs, and convert those signals into any of several standard instrument signals (1…5V, 4…20 mA, etc.).
Signal conditioners are also beneficial to the accurate transfer of these signals, isolation and the elimination of ground loops.
The K-System
The K-System guarantees a reliable and economical signal transmission between your field devices and the control system. Whether your plans include a single isolating module or a large scale system integration, application-oriented solutions characterize the entire K-System product range. The K-System modules are DIN-Rail mounted and can be powered by using the Power Rail.
Power Rail System
The Power Rail System allows a simple snap-in of the interface modules on the DIN-Rail. The power supply and monitoring of lead errors will be transferred with reliable, gold-plated rails. Benefits include reduced wiring, fewer connections and simplified expansions in the future. |

Group Overview: HART Interface Solutions |
|
|
|
HART Interface Solutions from Pepperl+Fuchs consist of two HART Multiplexer Systems for multiple signal loops and a HART Loop Converter for single loop applications. The Multiplexer is used to connect HART field devices to Asset Management Systems like AMS™ Suite: Intelligent Device Mananger from Emerson Process Management. At the heart of HART Interface Solution (HIS), the HART Multiplexer acts like a gateway device, routing communications between the maintenance workstation PC and the HART field devices.
It interrogates each HART device, retrieves device information, and stores it in an internal database. This information is made available by the AMS Device Manager or PACTware. The HART Multiplexer also acts as a message coordinator for communication between the maintenance workstation PC and the HART devices. For a single loop solution, the HART Loop Converter allows access to all process variables provided by a field device and transfers them to conventional 4...20 mA loop. This enables it to make use of the hidden measurements done by many field devices and feed them to conventional DCS Systems.

Group Overview: Corrosion Monitoring |
|
|
|
CorrTran MV is the first 2-wire, 4mA … 20mA HART transmitter that evaluates general corrosion and localized (pitting) corrosion, as well as conductivity, in real-time. Meant to take corrosion control out of the laboratory and into everyday process control, CorrTran MV is a revolutionary approach to corrosion detection and corrosion prevention. Unlike the traditional corrosion coupon method that established an average corrosion rate over time, CorrTran MV can monitor corrosion on-line and in real-time rather than in a historical analysis method that misses the possibility of a process to corrosion correlation.
CorrTran MV gives plant operators the ability to monitor corrosion rates within their existing software and control system like any other process variable (i.e., pressure, flow, level, temperature, pH). Since CorrTran MV has a standard 4-20 mA output, it can be easily integrated into a new or legacy system architecture. Using the CorrTran MV corrosion monitoring device, you will be able to see physical changes online and in real-time so process changes or planned maintenance is more effective.
With a wide range of mechanical configurations available for both standard and hazardous locations, CorrTran MV takes corrosion monitoring to a new level – one that makes corrosion data readily available to the process engineer so decisions can be made in real-time and according to current process conditions. Analysis of this data can lead to effective corrosion prevention. |
